Osprey

To prove the point, here is an osprey that I mentioned in the previous post. They seem to nest in every other tree. Nowhere have I seen so many in one localion.

Lake Marion

An eerie waterscape on Lake Marion, near Santee, South Carolina. Osprey nest in the tree tops that emerge from water dammed in the war years.

A short walk from the commercial centre of Banff and you're out into open countryside. Take a stroll along the trail beside the Bow River to really get away from it all.

When you have filled up your camera's memory card, which you ca easily do as you capture all the stunning scenery, pop back into town to an internet café and get them to download the images to CD on the spot for a very reasonable price.

Maligne Lake
Canada in July 2006. This was originally a colour image, but many people commenting on shots in my other photoblog (http://chunter.shutterchance.com) suggest converting to black and white. For some reason, they seem to like it.

So I've had a go and I must say that this, and some others that I've done, do have an Ansell Adamsian feel to them, although I wouldn't wish to suggest they were anywhere near in his class.

Our Canadian trip this year began in Calgary during Stampede week when everyone is a coboy (or cowgirl) and dresses accordingly in hats, boots and jeans at the very least. Others look like Roy Rogers.

After the fast and furious events in the Stampede Ground - namely the chuck wagon races, the rodeo, bull riding, roping, barrel racing and evening stage show with fireworks - we set of on our pre-arranged tour of the National Parks of Jasper and Banff before spending a few days on a dude ranch, The Homeplace Ranch, at Priddis. A few more days based at Lethbridge and then home.

Buick

A splendid 'yard car' I found in South Carolina. There are hundreds of these dotted about the state. I guess it's because there is so much room they don't bother to pool them in scrap yards as we do in Britain.

This is a Buick of some description. As as young child I knew almost every model of car on the roads in Britain, but I haven't a clue about the American market.

Welcome to my new blog

Welcome to my newly created Picasa blog. It's all new to me at the moment but I'm sure I'll soon get the hang of it.

I intend to use this primarily for photos, that being my chief interest. As soon as I find out how to upload them, I'll give it a whirl.
